This afternoon after returning from the mosque, one of my officemate came to my house to claim the souvenirs I brought from Spain. LOL. Actually he was on the way to the campus to return some books to the library. Yes he is still in his graduate study to get his MSc title from ITB. After we had a fun and pointless chitchat, he asked me to accompany him to the library and he wanted to show the new Internet quarter that has been recently built to enhance the information system quality in the one of the most respected libraries in the city. Well, being interested in so many things (especially ones that are associated with information technology), I could not turn down his offer. So in no time we had already hit the road to head for the library in his campus.
Soon after we arrived there, I could see a library with the luxurious building (much of extravagant one!) with modern architechture though it also comes with some tacky touches in some way. As we entered the door I began to sense murky atmosphere in the library. The front hall is dim, not enough light to cheer up the readers and the visitors. But as I stepped onto the next door to enter the main hall, the illumination is much better and I could see a long bar with some people behind it, it seems that it is where the people deal with the paperworks when they want to borrow or return the books. So my friend went there and he told me to look around, and he asked me to try the net connection at the new Internet corner. Well I was in no mood to try the net connection, but I was curious to know what to offer from the leading library in the town. So I began my observation with the Internet corner, I walked into the quarter and I could see a modern facility of the Internet connection with all LCD displays ready to take you to the virtual world. The quarter itself is clean and completely in order. Then suddenly another corner in the library caught my attention. It says right there 'American Corner'! Wow what is it all about, the American Corner?? Then I paced to the corner, it was dark inside! I could only see desks and cabinets but nobody was there and the quarter itself was locked! Wow... what does an American Corner do in this library? What does it offer?? It would have seemed very interesting if there were some activities inside, but too bad the showy corner was apparently inactive. Soon after I lost interest with the showy American Corner, I began to feel the full bladder inside me and I thought I had to empty it up. So I searched for a toilet and I saw stairs that lead to the toilet. The toilet's door was ajar, and I tried to open it.. wow it seemed that the hinge was already rusty, it's hard to open it and whenever I exerted my strength to open the door, the door always reacted with a squeaking noise! With the hard efforts, I eventually managed to open the door, but alas what did I see??? I saw a very dirty and forlorn toilet, it stinks worse than my dog's kennel and when I checked there was no water running in the toilet! Gosh! Is this all a leading library can offer?? Showy corners and a shabby toilet?? Well I can't explain anymore, You should see yourself! Adios!
